The Hermanus business landscape behind the 028 code
The Overberg runs on tourism, wine and agriculture — Hermanus whale-season hospitality, Gansbaai marine tourism, and the Caledon and Bredasdorp farming districts.
Within the 028 footprint, the commercial activity concentrates around the Hermanus CBD and Hermanus Industria, plus Gansbaai, Caledon and Bredasdorp.
A business advertising a 028 number is read by local customers as being part of that
economy rather than a national call centre.
Who typically runs a 028 line
- Whale-watching, shark-cage and marine tourism operators
- Guesthouses, boutique hotels and restaurants in Hermanus
- Wine estates and cellar-door operations in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley
- Agricultural services across the Caledon and Bredasdorp districts
Connectivity in the 028 area
Fibre coverage in this area is concentrated in the town centres, and fixed-LTE or fixed-wireless is often the practical choice further out. A VoIP line needs relatively little bandwidth, so both work — a stable connection matters more than a fast one.
