What is VoIP and how is it different from a normal line?+
VoIP (Voice over IP) lets you make and receive calls over the internet instead of a physical phone line. You get a real SA number, but it runs on SIP credentials that work on a desk phone or a softphone app on any device.
Which area codes are available?+
We offer 24 South African area codes, including 010 (Johannesburg), 021 (Cape Town), 031 (Durban) and 012 (Pretoria), so your business gets a genuine local presence.
What happens if I go over my monthly minutes?+
Each plan includes a set number of minutes — 150 on Starter, 500 on Business and 1000 on Pro. If you go over, additional minutes are billed at a low per-minute rate, or you can upgrade your plan at any time.
What equipment do I need?+
None required. Your SIP credentials work with a softphone app (like Zoiper or Linphone) on your computer or phone, or with a SIP desk phone such as Yealink or Grandstream if you prefer a physical handset.
Can I port my existing business number?+
Yes — number porting is available for South African numbers as a paid add-on: R250 once-off, typically completed within 3 working days. You'll need your most recent invoice from your current provider, a copy of your ID, and proof of residence. Request a WhatsApp chat or email our support team and we'll guide you through the process.
Is there a contract?+
No. All Hopetel VoIP plans are month-to-month with no lock-in contract. Upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time.
Does priority support cost extra?+
Priority support is included free on the Business and Pro plans. The Pro plan additionally includes the highest monthly minute allocation.
