πŸš€ Getting Started
What is Hopetel VoIP and how does it work? β–Ύ
Hopetel VoIP gives your business a real South African phone number that runs over the internet instead of a traditional phone line. Sign up, choose a plan and area code, and we email you SIP credentials. Enter these into a softphone app or SIP desk phone and you can start making and receiving calls immediately β€” no technician visit required.
Do I need a Hopetel account to sign up for a plan? β–Ύ
Yes β€” a free Hopetel account is required so we can issue your SIP credentials, manage your area code, and give you access to the online portal for call logs, invoices and settings. Registration takes under 60 seconds.
Which area codes can I choose from? β–Ύ
Hopetel offers 24 South African area codes covering all 9 provinces β€” including 010 (Johannesburg), 021 (Cape Town), 031 (Durban) and 012 (Pretoria) β€” plus an 087 national number. Pick the code your clients will recognise as local to them.
Can I set up a line for a colleague or a second office? β–Ύ
Yes. You can sign up for additional individual Hopetel lines for colleagues or additional offices β€” each line is its own single-line (1 concurrent call) account with its own number and SIP credentials. We don't offer PBX/multi-extension functionality on a single line at the moment; contact our support team and we can help you set up and coordinate multiple lines.
Is Hopetel VoIP reliable for business use? β–Ύ
Yes, Hopetel is a registered South African company that is POPIA-compliant and uses SSL encryption for all account and billing transactions. On a stable fibre or LTE connection, call quality is on par with a traditional landline, and we recommend at least 1 Mbps upload speed per simultaneous call.
πŸ“ž Setup & Equipment
How long does it take to get my SIP credentials? β–Ύ
Activation takes 1 business day from payment confirmation. Once your line is activated, your SIP username, password and server address are available directly in your dashboard β€” no need to wait on an email. If it's been longer than 1 business day, request a WhatsApp chat and include your order number.
What equipment do I need? β–Ύ
No special hardware is required β€” you can download the free Zoiper softphone app to your phone or computer and start calling. If you'd prefer a physical handset, you can buy a desktop phone or a cordless phone directly from us when placing your order.
I entered the wrong details during sign-up β€” what do I do? β–Ύ
Contact us immediately by requesting a WhatsApp chat or emailing [email protected] with your account details. If your line has not yet been provisioned, we can update it at no charge. If it has already been set up, we will investigate and resolve on a case-by-case basis.
Will I get confirmation once my line is active? β–Ύ
Yes β€” once your line is activated, you'll see your SIP username, password and server address directly in your dashboard, along with your area code and access to call logs, invoices and settings.
πŸ’³ Billing & Invoicing
How does billing work? β–Ύ
Hopetel VoIP is billed monthly in advance. We accept EFT and bank transfer only β€” your invoice shows our banking details, and you upload proof of payment directly from your dashboard once you've paid. There is no long-term contract β€” plans run month-to-month.
What happens if I go over my included minutes? β–Ύ
Starter includes 150 minutes, Business 500 minutes, and Pro 1,000 minutes per month. Additional minutes are billed at a per-minute rate confirmed at sign-up. Unused minutes do not roll over, and we email you when you reach 80% of your monthly allocation.
How do you keep my payment information secure? β–Ύ
Since we only accept EFT and bank transfer, we never handle or store your card or banking login details at all. You pay directly from your own bank, and simply upload proof of payment to your dashboard for our team to confirm.
πŸ” Porting & Contracts
Can I keep my existing business phone number? β–Ύ
Yes β€” number porting is available for South African numbers as a paid add-on service: R250 once-off, with a typical turnaround of 3 working days once we have everything we need from you. To start a port, you'll need to provide: (1) your most recent invoice from your current telecom provider showing the number and proof it's paid up, (2) a copy of your ID, and (3) proof of residence. Your existing number continues to ring normally right up until the port completes. Request a WhatsApp chat or use your online portal to start the process.
Is there a contract or minimum term? β–Ύ
No fixed-term contract and no setup fee β€” plans run month-to-month. To cancel, we ask for 1 month's notice so we can wind down your line and billing cleanly; your service continues as normal during that notice period.
Can I switch plans later? β–Ύ
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade between Starter, Business and Pro at any time from your online portal. Changes take effect from your next billing cycle.
πŸ”§ Technical Issues
My calls keep dropping β€” what's wrong? β–Ύ
Call drops are usually caused by an unstable internet connection. Check your upload speed is at least 1 Mbps per simultaneous call, restart your router, and make sure your softphone app or desk phone has the latest firmware. If issues persist, contact our support team.
The website isn't loading β€” how do I get support? β–Ύ
You can request a WhatsApp chat and our team will message you. Simply share your account details and a description of the issue. Our team processes WhatsApp chat requests 7 days a week during business hours.
